Explore Costa Blanca beyond the bike
Enjoy the spectacular beauty and culture of the Costa Blanca, on the bike and off. When cyclists take to two wheels for mountain climbs, non-riding guests will visit the cliff-edge fortress of Guadalest. Our itineraries bring the entire group back together for shared highlights, including an exclusive guided vineyard tour and wine tasting at Pepe Mendoza estate and a relaxing coastal escape to the upscale fishing village of Moraira. A quick walk from our accommodations, explore the charming market town of Xaló. Whether searching for artisan goods, walking scenic coastal trails, or learning regional history, your days will be filled with authentic Spanish culture at your own pace.
The Secret Fortress of Guadalest
Literally carved into the mountainside, this medieval town is entirely enclosed by rock and can only be accessed on foot through a dramatic 15-foot tunnel. This independent half-day trip lets you explore entirely at your own pace, with three distinct paths to choose from.
The Castle and Cultural Route: Explore the upper village to find the historic Casa Orduña, the church, and unique local museums. Stand among the cliff-edge ruins of San José Castle, an 11th-century Moorish fortress built into the rock that offers sweeping views of the Guadalest Valley.
Reservoir Views: Take a scenic walk down toward the shores of the Guadalest Reservoir and explore paths surrounding the famous blue-green water, framed by the peaks above.
The Relaxed Gastronomy Route: Settle in at one of the outdoor bars for a drink and a taste of the area's authentic local food while soaking in the mountain views.
Vineyard Tour and Wine Tasting
Located in a valley where the ancient Romans cultivated vineyards centuries ago, the Pepe Mendoza estate is dedicated to preserving the region's raw winemaking identity. Our guided tour includes these highlights:
Centuries-Old Vines: Stroll through organic vineyards with vines dating from 50 to over 100 years old.
Ecological Winemaking: Learn about low-intervention practices that use native grapes without exogenous yeasts or enzymes.
Restored Historic Estate: Tour the grounds to see how traditional regional practices shape authentic local wines.
Wine Tasting and Tapas: Along the way, taste signature Mediterranean wines from the estate paired with a selection of artisan tapas.
Coastal Day in Moraira
Moraira features pristine beaches, waterfront cafes, artisan boutique shops, and a historic 18th-century defensive castle overlooking the marina. The goal of this day is to truly make it your own, allowing you to relax completely in town or stretch your legs on the coast. Choose between the following:
The Coastal Walk: Easily access the Paseo Ecológico right from the village. This gentle, scenic trail hugs the shoreline and features a mixture of pavement, wooden boardwalks, hard-packed dirt, and stairs. The full path is 4 km one way, but you can turn around whenever you like.
The Historic Castle: Tour the Castillo de Moraira, an 18th-century defensive fort built on the water's edge to protect against pirates and check out the adjacent history exhibit.
Beach day: Spend your day laying out and relaxing on the pristine beach right next to the castle walls.
Explore the Town: Spend your time in a waterfront cafe or exploring local boutique shops.
Explore the town of Xaló
Located just moments from where we are staying, Xaló sits surrounded by vineyards and comes alive with local commerce and tradition. This independent outing lets you immerse yourself in the rhythm of everyday Spanish life at your own leisurely pace.
